Gingerbread cookies

What you’ll need:

1 ½ c dark molasses
1 c brown sugar
2/3 c cold water
1/3 c shortening
7 c flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ground allspice
1 tsp ground cloves
2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1 (16 oz) pkg chocolate frosting

Mix together the molasses, brown sugar, water and shortening. In a separate bowl mix together the flour, baking soda, salt, allspice, ginger, cloves and cinnamon. Add the two together mixing well. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease one cookie sheet. Roll dough ¼ inch thick on a floured board. Cut with floured gingerbread cutter. Place about 2 inches apart on cookie sheet. Bake for 10 - 12 minutes. Cool and decorate with frosting. You can use different frostings and candy pieces to decorate your gingerbread men if desired. And this recipe makes great gingerbread houses too! Great fun for the kids! Makes about 30 cookies.
