Beef stroganoff

Friday, January 2, 2009

This recipe tastes best slow cooked. It allows the meat to become extremely tender and all the flavors to mix together.

What you’ll need:

1 lb round steak, cut into thin strips
½ c onion, chopped
2 tsp butter
¼ c water
½ tsp paprika
1 can cream of mushroom soup
½ c sour cream
Salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste.
Rice or egg noodles

Brown the steak and onion in the butter in a large pot. Stir in remaining ingredients except rice or egg noodles. Cover. Cook over low heat for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve over rice or noodles. Makes 4 servings.

Tip: This is an excellent recipe to cook in the crock pot. After browning the beef and onion, mix all ingredients together in crock pot, cover and cook on low under beef is tender.

Budget version: Use 1 pound ground beef in place of the beef tips. Brown and drain. Continue with recipe as above.

steak - $3.50
onion - $1.12
cream of mushroom soup - $0.89
sour cream - $0.99
egg noodles - $1.89
Total - $8.39
