Cooking Light -- May 2010 PLUS Real Simple and Method’s Green & Clean Sweepstakes

Monday, May 10, 2010

Hi guys! I am certainly enjoying my break but I'm also missing you and should be returning to some kind of regular posting soon! While I am still on break and enjoying it, I couldn't miss telling you all about Cooking Light's May issue! I also have a contest to tell you about that's pretty cool :)

First, Cooking Light/May 2010 highlights:

America’s Calorie Unveiling (p. 176) – Call it our national girth-right: We like our fast food deep-fried, sugar-dipped, and super-sized. Cooking Light investigates how requirements for restaurants to post nutrition information on their menus will impact America ’s dining habits. Plus, this law targets restaurant chains like the Olive Garden, Ruby Tuesday, and Applebees while leaving local restaurants alone. Is eating at a local establishment healthier? Or are these restaurants worse?

Navigating a Diner Menu (p. 51) – Good, cheap and simple. The American diner formula is nearly perfect. At a diner you get home-style cooking, a comfy booth, and lots of nostalgia.
But, you can also get lots of fat and calories. Cooking Light offers simple strategies to make smarter choices when dining at America ’s classic establishments. Plus: the best (Grilled Cheese) and worst (Cobb Salad) choices to make at diners.

The Pleasures of Making Great Pizza (p. 138) – There is nothing more satisfying than pizza. Cooking Light offers four different pizza styles with plenty of healthy toppings. Plus: weeknight shortcuts for when you’re in a hurry to get a homemade pie on the table. Recipes include: Neapolitan-Style Pizza, Veggie Grilled Pizza, Pizza Margarita, and more.

Feed 4 for Under $10 (p. 208) – This month’s recipes for delicious, nutritious and budget-friendly eating include: Zucchini and Tomato Pasta, Chicken Enchiladas, Pasta Carbonara, and Beef Skewers.

The First Spring of Risotto (p.184) – As an entrée, side, or even dessert, the dish is a versatile partner for fresh spring produce. Cooking Light’s easy tips will help you turn out perfect risottos every time.
